There is currently a shortage of adopters in the UK, with around 4000 children waiting for permanent homes.Action for Children Adoption Manager Carol Buckley says “Action for Children is looking for people who have energy, patience, resilience and understanding to step forward and open up their lives to help vulnerable young children. Ideally they should have some child care experience and no young children of their own. Currently, we have successful placements with people from all walks of life, including single people, gay couples and many families on low incomes. We believe what matters most is that children are placed in a loving, caring, secure environment and that all potential adoptive parents are fully prepared and supported through the entire process, and this support continues as they settle into family life” Jacqui Clark, of the Action for Children adoption team said: “We are looking for permanent homes in the Crawley area for children who range in age from around four to eleven years. Many of these children are siblings, with two, three or four children from the same family needing to stay together, or remain in close contact with one another as they grow up. The children are from a diverse range of ethnic, religious and linguistic backgrounds, reflecting the wider Sussex population”. Horsham adopters Janet and Phil are backing the Action for Children appeal commenting: “when we first thought about adoption, we didn’t fully appreciate the amount of support we would get from the Action for Children team to help us to build a family. They were available all the way, providing practical advice, reassurance, specialist training, preparation courses, as well as introductions to local support groups. It made all the difference.” If you would like to speak to a member of the FosteringRecruitment Team, please call 01403 246 484.
